Katie Laurel Inglis (b. 1986, Grand Junction, Colorado) is a self taught abstract painter and designer, working with traditional materials and found surfaces to explore the vastness and intimacy of the Chihuahuan Desert in Far West Texas. With a background in design, Katie aims to capture the interplay of light, land, and memory into essential forms: sky, earth, season, and shadow. Her practice is meditation in action, reflecting on the spaces surrounding where art making takes place, and distilling the overlooked complexities of desert terrain into its essential parts. Through simplified landscapes built of blocked colors and intentional, rhythmic brush strokes, the viewer is called to consider preconceived notions of what creates a space, what is essential, and how time passes. Katie lives and works in Marfa, Texas.
